2008 Fall DSM Workshop PDF Print E-mail
Coming up on September 26th, KAMFT is offering a DSM Workshop titled, "Diagnosis and Treatment of PTSD in Returning Veterans."  Our presenter will be Dr. Jeremy P. Crosby.  Dr Crosby specializes in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  He earned the Doctor of Psychology degree from Indiana State University.  During his final year of training at the VA Medical Center in Lexington Kentucky, he completed intensive specialized training in the diagnosis and treatment of PTSD.  This specialization has continued in treating individuals with PTSD and other trauma-related disorders.  He continues to be active in PTSD treatment program development and provides consultation to professionals treating clients with trauma-based disorders.  He is active in providing clinical training to graduate students and serves as an adjunct instructor at Friends University in Wichita Kansas.  He is the author of "A Mind Frozen in Time", which is a PTSD recovery guide intended for individuals and their family members, and for use as a clinical resource.  Dr. Crosby provides lectures on PTSD and its treatment for both professional and lay audiences.

Many military veterans seek mental health treatment in the local communities to which they return after their active duty service.  This seminar focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of returning veterans with PTSD who present for treatment in private practice and community treatment settings.  Participants will be able to accomplish the following learning objectives:

1.         Accurately diagnose PTSD using DSM-IV TR.

2.         Distinguish co-morbid conditions from disorders which are frequently

misdiagnosed in actual cases of PTSD.

3.         Identify elements unique to a veteran population.

4.         Utilize a PTSD recovery guide and identify areas of focus for treatment

            intervention.

5.         Identify effects of PTSD on the family and systemic intervention strategies.

This workshop is offered at three loations - Dr. Crosby will be presenting at Friends University in Wichita.  Those attending at the Lenexa and Topeka Friends locations will be participating by videoconference.  Registration for this workshop is $65.

To register, simply email Chris Habben and bring a check or cash on the day of the event.
