CALL TO ACTION

Kansas State Senate

(April 21, 2008)

Dear KAMFT Members:

I am writing to ask you contact your state senator in the Kansas Senate to express your support of the following issue and to ask your representative for their support as well.

Support the provisions of Sub HB 2601. The provision of interest to MFTs is the requirement of health insurance companies to reimburse LCMFTs for mental health services when the company would otherwise reimburse for those services. While it is likely that this action will be taken by the Senate Financial Institutions and Insurance Committee, it is time for us as an organization to write or call all the members of the State Senate. Action on this issue will likely take place next legislative year.  An email or phone call to your senator is very important.

I will offer a very brief example below of what you might include in your contact as there is some technical language understood by members that will be important to include in your correspondence. PLEASE DO NOT JUST FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO YOUR SENATOR but modify the example (located on the next page) to your experience. If you are without examples, an email including the first paragraph would still be helpful.

Please let me know ( This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ) of your communication with your senator and any response you might receive from your Legislator. It is important to know how legislators are reacting to our calls and letters. This is probably the most important piece of legislation in Kansas with an impact on MFTs in years.

If you do not know who your legislator is, you may click on the following link (IPSR - Kansas ) to identify your senator and their contact information.

Sincerely,
Christopher M. Habben, Ph.D., LCMFT
Kansas KAMFT President
